The story
Pohjois-Savossa nautitaan ruoasta ja juomasta luonnon rytmin mukaisesti, ja puhtaat maut tulevat läheltä.
Syömälysti
The dining table in Savo has always been a place for interaction. During a shared meal or coffee break, we catch up and make plans for the rest of the day. The offerings on the table provide a common topic of conversation in a new group, and by the time we reach dessert, we are already old friends.

Food culture
Traditional food and recipes from North Savo strongly represent the eastern food culture in Finland. The eastern border has always been close, and at times we have been part of the other side of the border; the connection to Slavic culture is still visible on our dining tables. Salted mushrooms, fermented products, 'kukot' (traditional Finnish pies), and hearty, long-simmered stews are still enjoyed by us. After World War II, over 400,000 Finns were evacuated from the ceded Karelia; these Orthodox Karelians brought their own touch – such as Karelian pasties – to the food culture of our region.

EU protected designation products
The EU's protection designation system adds value to products and protects food and agricultural products from misuse or counterfeiting of established names. Protected designation products are unique – they bring additional visibility to the region and help preserve its food culture. For consumers, the protection is a guarantee that the product's origin, ingredients, and production methods are known.
